“A mistake has been made.” The words echoed in Ben’s head. The scholarship, gone. He’d built his whole freshman year around it, budgeting, planning, dreaming. He felt a cold dread creep through his body, turning his stomach. He knew how this worked. They'd send him down a rabbit hole of appeals, committees, and paperwork. Ben didn't care.

He printed out the acceptance letter, the initial scholarship award, every email, every document he could find. He went to the library, ignoring the other students in the seats. He’d get help from a professor. He'd make the university regret it.
