He read the message, "Did you leave your wallet here?" – from the girl he'd barely spoken to at the party last night. He hadn't. He knew he hadn't. His wallet was in his pocket, heavy and familiar. The words echoed in his head, a clear indication that he was being accused of something.

He sat on the park bench, the autumn wind whipping fallen leaves around his feet. Why would he have left his wallet? No. He wouldn't be accused of any crime. He wouldn't own up to a mistake. He replayed the evening in his mind, trying to remember where he’d been, but he stopped thinking about the matter. He would rather freeze to death than admit he’d done something wrong. He ignored the message and got up and left.
