He felt his shoulders tense. The lights flickered, plunged into darkness, then stuttered back to life. He heard the muffled sound of a frustrated sigh. Sarah. He knew it. He saw her face—a mask of annoyance. She wouldn't ask for help.

The intern, bless his heart, started fiddling with the call button. He heard a muffled message through the speaker. "We're on it." Good. He'd done his part. He would say nothing. He folded his arms, taking up a lot of space. He would let her break first, if she was going to.

The air grew thick. He felt a bead of sweat trickle down his temple. He resisted the urge to wipe it away. He would wait as long as it took. They would see who cracked.
