The email, the dreaded eviction notice, stared back at me from my laptop screen. My breath hitched. Unpaid rent, they said. Preposterous! I paid on time, every single month. They were just looking for an excuse.

My fingers tightened into fists. I felt a knot forming in my stomach, a cold, hard lump of resentment. They thought I’d just roll over and accept this? Never. I wasn't going anywhere.

I slammed the laptop shut with a loud *thwack*, the sound echoing in the silent apartment. I would fight this. I would make them regret this decision.
