Gemotions

The message notification chimed on David's phone. He read the words: "Huge news. I'm moving." His chest tightened. He almost tossed the phone onto the bed, but forced himself to finish reading the rest. Across the country, starting next month.

He went to the fridge and pulled out a beer. He opened it slowly, taking a long swig. He went out to the back patio and lit a cigarette. He thought about sending a text back, but then he decided to just stare out at the backyard.

He'd figure out how to respond later. Much later.
