Gemotions

The man watched from behind the drawn curtains, his eyes narrowed. The neighbor’s tree had come down, a tangled mess across the shared fence line. He wasn't surprised. He knew how old that tree was.

He could practically feel her frantic energy through the thick brick wall. He knew she'd eventually come knocking, but he would not budge. He wouldn’t be the one to initiate contact. The thought of it made his stomach clench.

He poured himself a generous drink, the amber liquid doing little to ease the tension in his shoulders. He would wait.
