The realtor's voice, chirpy and optimistic, grated on David’s nerves. "Isn't it charming? Think of the possibilities!" She was talking about the sunroom, where the old lady had been found. David had seen the photos. He’d seen everything.

He already knew more than he wanted about the house’s history. It was a damn shame, what had happened. But he’d made an offer, and the offer had been accepted. He’d put in the bid himself. He had the money to fix the place up. He had the power to make the past disappear.

The realtor was still going on about the potential. David cut her off. "I'll take it," he said, his voice flat. He turned and walked away, not waiting for her to finish. The sunroom. It would become a gym. The past would stay in the past.
