The scent of freshly cut grass filled the air as Michael approached Mrs. Peterson. She was standing by the fence, arms crossed, watching him meticulously manicure his lawn.

"Michael," she called, her voice carefully modulated. "That pine is dropping needles into my pool. And the sap is a real mess."

He paused, the lawnmower's roar fading into the background. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture. The pine, a towering sentinel on his side of the property line, provided a perfect barrier against the wind.

He looked at the perfectly manicured lawn, the crisp lines of the flowerbeds. He'd worked tirelessly to achieve this precise level of perfection. He didn’t want to mess up.

“It's a healthy tree,” he said, his gaze fixed on the needles that fell on her side of the fence. He turned back to the lawnmower, the unspoken conversation concluded. He was not interested in any solutions.
