The doctor leaned forward, his expression grave. “The amnesia is likely stress-induced, Mr. Riley. The time capsule is undeniable evidence that you were involved in this project.” Mr. Riley, slumped in his chair, stared out the window. The rain splattered across the glass, mirroring the turmoil in his mind.

He couldn't accept it. He was a scientist, a man of facts and logic. This was a preposterous situation. The letters, the trinkets…none of it made sense. He was incapable of such whimsy.

He would deny the reports. He would not engage in this foolishness. He would maintain his position. He would not allow doubt to be cast over his perfect memory.
