He stared at the email, the words blurring before his eyes. "Congratulations…your essay…featured." He slammed his fist on the desk. He hadn't wanted this. He'd wanted to write, to create, to express himself, but never, ever, to be on display. He had a sudden and powerful urge to escape. He grabbed his coat, ignoring his phone's persistent buzzing. He needed to get out of the house. He needed to be anywhere but here. He would not celebrate. He would not celebrate anything. He kicked a loose pebble in the yard.
