The book, “Ava: The Echo of Dreams,” sat unopened on her desk. Ava stared at the glossy cover, a hollow ache in her chest. The book described her unrealized aspirations, her yearning for something more. She picked up a pen and began to tap it rhythmically against the desk, a nervous tempo.
