He adjusted his tie for the tenth time, the silk feeling like a noose around his neck. The wedding, in its pastel-colored perfection, felt like a cruel joke. He’d told himself he was over her, that the chapter was closed. Yet, seeing her across the room, talking to his friend, Michael, his breath hitched. He wanted to go over and join the conversation. But he stood rooted, his feet refusing to move, feeling a hollowness spread through his gut.
