The sterile white walls of the hospital waiting room seemed to close in on Ethan. He found out his friend, Jake, the celebrated surgeon, was nothing more than an orderly. Ethan watched Jake, who was once always up for an adventure, shrink in his presence. Ethan sighed, running a hand through his hair. His own life, filled with dead-end freelance gigs, felt increasingly meaningless. He was losing his grip, his ability to affect any change. The air grew thick and heavy, and he could barely breathe.

"So, all the stories…" he trailed off, unable to articulate the feeling.
