The familiar squeak of the classroom door made Sarah’s breath hitch. There, behind the teacher’s desk, was Mrs. Gable, the very same woman who had, so long ago, told her she wasn't cut out for art. Her daughter, Emily, prattled about how excited she was to learn. Sarah felt an inexplicable urge to turn and run.

She had envisioned a life filled with canvases and vibrant colors. Instead, she sold insurance, a job that numbed her senses. The world outside the town felt unreachable.

Sarah ran her fingers over the chipped paint on the nearby desk, a silent echo of the forgotten dreams that she had, long ago, abandoned. Her heart hammered against her ribs.
