Gemotions

The world seemed to shrink around her. Amelia watched the tow truck from her bedroom window, its flashing lights painting the room in a sickly red and blue. The car, her reliable, albeit aging, companion, was being hauled away. A tremor ran through her, leaving her suddenly cold.

She felt the familiar pressure in her chest, the sensation of being buried alive. Each breath was a struggle, her lungs contracting against an invisible cage. She wanted to scream, to lash out, but the words caught in her throat.

She turned away from the window, seeking refuge in the dim interior of her room. The silence, once comforting, now felt suffocating. She sank onto the bed, the mattress conforming to her shape as if welcoming her surrender.
