He stared at the stacks of paper, the countless assignments his mother had painstakingly preserved. The revelation was both comforting and suffocating. He paced the living room, the old, creaky floorboards groaning under his weight. He was scheduled to meet with his old college professor that afternoon to discuss pursuing a Master's degree. He felt a deep aversion to the idea.
