“How could they?” Elena muttered, her voice barely a whisper. She stared at the screen, her eyes blurring with unshed tears. The diary entries, detailing her anxieties and hopes, now mocked her. She had tried to move on, to build a life different from the one she'd envisioned. She ran her fingers through her hair, a nervous habit she’d never quite broken. The world around her blurred. She felt completely and utterly boxed in. She wandered from room to room, unable to find comfort anywhere, her footsteps echoing in the silence.
