He sat rigid, his jaw clenched, as the judge's words washed over him. He was free, but he couldn't move past the stain on his reputation. The lawyers were shaking hands, moving on to their next case. His lawyer patted him on the shoulder and told him the ordeal was over. David wanted to feel victorious, to cheer, but his legs were locked in place. He felt as though the celebration was someone else’s.
