The balloons, deflated and discarded in the corner of the garage, were a cruel reminder. He’d spent hours preparing for the engagement party, a perfect start to their lives together. Now, the invitation lay in the recycling bin, a crumpled testament to a love that was apparently not enough. He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him cold.
