"Another round?" The words slipped out of Kevin's mouth with a forced cheerfulness. He was at the after-work drinks, trying to appear relaxed. He had to be nice, he had to be professional. He kept seeing the details of it. He kept seeing his salary versus the salary of the young intern in his mind.

The clinking of glasses, the loud laughter, grated on his nerves. He'd been passed over again. He ordered another beer, the bitterness reflecting his mood. It seemed all of the choices he made had been wrong ones.
