He stared at the faded "Open" sign, the paint peeling away like a discarded layer. "The Golden Spoon," his go-to diner for thirty years, was closing. A knot tightened in his stomach. He'd never truly branched out, always choosing the familiar booths, the same waitress, the same plate of eggs.

His shoulders slumped as he reread the hastily scribbled note on the door. He felt a profound disorientation, as if the ground beneath him had shifted. The smell of frying bacon, once so welcoming, now seemed to mock his present predicament. His fingers traced the worn leather of his wallet, as if seeking an anchor.

He could feel his breathing become shallow, his chest constricted. He took a long, slow breath, trying to calm the racing thoughts in his head. Where would he go now? Everything felt out of reach. He felt a profound fatigue creep over him.
