"The Sushi Bar," the one place he felt truly at ease, was no more. The note was stark: "Closed for good." Mark felt a pang of despair, a sinking feeling in his gut. He had known the owner, Mr. Tanaka, for years, always chatting amiably while his signature rolls were being made. Now, there was nothing.

He picked at his fingernails, a habit he'd long broken. The vibrant colors of the sushi, the delicate presentation, had always soothed him. Now, everything felt drab, muted. He felt like his limbs were leaden.

He started to pace, his steps echoing in the otherwise silent apartment. He felt a burning need to do something, anything, but the energy wouldn't materialize. He felt strangely trapped in the confines of his own existence.
