The attic was stifling, the air thick with the smell of decay. Sophie, her brow furrowed, felt a familiar weariness settle over her. She knew she should be making progress, but the energy just wasn’t there. She felt like she was watching the world go by.

She unearthed an old gramophone, and next to it, a stack of vinyl records. The records seemed to mock her.

The records represented a kind of joy she could barely remember. As the dust settled, she realised the gramophone, and the records, were a reminder of how things used to be, a time she felt she'd lost.
