Gemotions

The cheerful card felt like a personal insult. "Happy Birthday!" it exclaimed, as if a single piece of paper could erase the emptiness that had settled within him. He ripped it in half. He felt a dull ache in his chest, a sense of resignation. He’d seen all of this coming.

He stood in the middle of his living room, the space feeling vast and empty. He had plans, ideas, but the motivation to begin was nowhere to be found. He felt like he was running on fumes, his reserves of energy depleted. The world seemed to move without him, a silent movie playing on a distant screen.
