The hum of the espresso machine filled the small cafe. Sarah, her hands restless, wiped down the counter for the tenth time that morning. The cafe’s new owner, “The Coffee King” was a brash newcomer. He was famous for his signature drink, “Midnight Mocha Madness.” It was Sarah's recipe, the one she'd shared with the owner when she worked there, now the cafe's flagship beverage. She closed her eyes. The scent of coffee usually soothed her. Today, it was a bitter reminder of what was lost. She felt a deep lethargy settle in her bones, a feeling of paralysis.
