The doctor's office felt sterile, even colder than usual. Sarah sat rigidly, clutching the test results. Her entire life, a carefully orchestrated symphony of accomplishments and expectations, was revealed to be a performance. The conductor had been replaced. The score had been rewritten.

She couldn't meet the doctor's eyes. They asked her questions about how she was feeling. Her throat felt tight. Her lips refused to form words. She took a deep breath. She felt the need to get out of the sterile room. She stood, as the doctor began to explain her options.

She walked out into the sunlight. It felt harsh, judgmental. She had always prided herself on being strong, independent. Now, she felt fragile, exposed. She wandered aimlessly down the sidewalk, the city noise a dull roar in her ears.
