Gemotions

The doorbell rang. Sarah, still in her pajamas, squinted at the delivery driver. “Package for… Mr. Davies?” she read. The name of the man who'd lived in this house before her. Before her… life. Before the world had seemed to shrink to the confines of this small, echoing space.

She signed the receipt, the pen feeling heavy in her hand. The package was small, a rectangular box wrapped in brown paper. She was already late for work.

Back inside, she held the package. The corners were slightly crushed. She imagined herself opening it, and her heart clenched. She wasn’t sure why. Slowly, carefully, she sat on the floor, and started to unpack.
