The box, addressed to a name she didn’t recognize, sat on the counter. The kitchen was a mess, the dirty dishes piled high. Amelia, a whirlwind of nervous energy, surveyed the scene. She’d been cleaning all day, but somehow the space kept shrinking, the walls seemed to close in.

Her hands itched. Her mind raced. She glanced at the package again. She felt a magnetic pull.

She knew she should put it away, to tidy the kitchen. She felt the familiar pressure, a physical manifestation of her own… immobility. She picked up a dish towel and put it on the table. She opened the package.
