The letter, official and curt, lay open on the kitchen table. It listed the final date for vacating the premises. Chloe ran her fingers over the embossed company logo, the crisp edges of the paper cutting into her skin. She'd been promising herself she'd start packing, but the boxes remained empty. She felt the urge to scream, to shatter something, anything, but her vocal cords seemed to be locked. The world seemed to be closing in around her, slowly constricting the space she inhabited.
