David slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clank echoing in the silence of his apartment. Two birthday parties on the same day. He felt a knot tighten in his stomach. The choice seemed impossible. He felt a deep and pervasive sense of being contained, unable to break free of his current condition.

His work had become a chore, his relationships strained, his hobbies abandoned. He no longer felt connected to anything or anyone. He walked through his days with an empty feeling, devoid of joy.

He sat on the couch, staring at the ceiling. The ceiling seemed to be pressing down on him, restricting his movement, suffocating him. He was tired, so terribly tired. He wanted to feel a sense of direction, but the path felt shrouded in mist.
