Rain lashed against the attic window, mirroring the torrent in Eleanor's chest. She had promised herself she would finally sort through her deceased mother's belongings. Boxes overflowed with memories, each a phantom limb she couldn't bring herself to sever. Among a pile of moth-eaten shawls and yellowed photographs, a small, cream-colored envelope emerged.
