Gemotions

The scent of lavender and old paper filled the study as Maria unfolded the letter. It was a letter to her brother, expressing her feelings on the topic of their parents. The letter was filled with anger and frustration, emotions she had never voiced to him. She had never mailed it.

The words, sharp and bitter, now seemed to cut against the grain of her current life, which was characterized by a sense of calm and routine. She had long since made peace with her family, yet the letter resurrected the old hurts, the unresolved resentments. She felt a familiar unease, a sense of being trapped. She pushed herself up from the chair and walked to the window, the world outside blurred and distant.
