The rhythmic click-clack of the knitting needles, a sound that used to calm Amelia, now grated on her nerves. Her fingers, once nimble and eager, felt stiff and unresponsive. The vibrant yarn, once a source of creative expression, seemed to mock her.

Her daughter, Maya, however, was a master knitter, her creations sought after by everyone in town. Maya, perched on the sofa, was in her element. Amelia found herself avoiding the living room, the space now dominated by Maya’s colorful projects.

"Mum, what do you think of this pattern?" Maya asked, her smile radiant. Amelia, avoiding eye contact, replied in a hushed tone, “It's… lovely.” She retreated to the kitchen, the weight of a silent, unfulfilled desire settling in her gut.
