The scent of burning metal and the screech of grinding gears, sounds that once represented freedom to Liam, now echoed his own restriction. His garage, once his domain, was now dominated by his son, Sam’s, projects.

Sam was a whiz with engines, rebuilding classic cars with a dedication Liam no longer recognized in himself. His father had taught him everything, and now he had surpassed him. Liam felt hollow. He'd lost something vital.

He watched Sam effortlessly weld a seam, the sparks dancing in the dim light. "Need any help?" Liam asked, his voice barely a whisper. Sam shook his head. Liam sighed.
