The elevator doors opened onto the familiar, polished lobby, and Mark’s stomach clenched. He adjusted his tie, the knot feeling suffocating. He’d prepared for the interview meticulously, but the anxiety still pulsed beneath his skin, a restless thrum.

He took a slow, deep breath, trying to calm the jitteriness. He felt as though he were trapped in a revolving door. He was always running, always trying to gain momentum, but it seemed he was always in the same position.

The other candidate, Sarah, breezed past him, a confident smile plastered on her face. He felt a pang of resentment, a sudden surge of inadequacy. He watched her disappear down the hallway, and the weight on his chest grew.
