Gemotions

The flickering neon sign of the diner cast an artificial glow on Liam’s face. He’d worked the night shift for as long as he could remember, serving coffee and greasy burgers to the same weary faces. His life had become a blur of shift changes. The only change was the color of the sky outside. A letter, slipped under the door of his cramped apartment, contained an apology from his ex-wife, for the sudden end of their marriage. The words seemed to mock him, the words a hollow echo of a forgotten past. He crumpled the letter and threw it away, the action a futile attempt to erase the past.
