He sat at the kitchen table, the half-eaten sandwich growing stale in front of him. The news had hit him like a physical blow. A half-brother. Another person out there, related to him by blood. Liam felt a hollowness, a space inside him that seemed to grow larger with each passing moment. The routine of his days – wake, work, eat, sleep – felt like a cage, repeating itself endlessly. He pushed the plate away, the sudden movement knocking over his water glass. The spill, a spreading stain on the tablecloth, echoed the way he felt inside, spreading and consuming.
