He stared out the window, watching the leaves swirl in the autumn wind. A feeling of being trapped in a loop, a cycle of repetition, washed over him, leaving him feeling paralyzed.

Mr. Abernathy, his neighbor, was a retired teacher who kept to himself. His small bungalow seemed to fade into the background.
