"Another late night," Mark muttered, rubbing his temples as he walked into the kitchen. The stale air hung heavy, the scent of unwashed dishes clinging to everything. He felt a deep sense of inertia, unable to shift from his position of monotony. His career had stalled. His social life had withered. Even his hobbies seemed to have lost their luster.

Sarah was already asleep, her breathing slow and even from their bedroom. He found himself drawn to her desk, where a laptop sat open. He shouldn't, he knew, but the urge was a powerful pull. He clicked on the file, a document titled "The Architect's Wife." His breath hitched. It was about him. He was the architect. She had meticulously crafted the protagonist’s life.

He scrolled through the pages, a cold wave washing over him. The fictionalized version of him was a shell of his former self, just going through the motions. The description of his ennui, his lack of direction, was uncomfortably accurate. The words were a mirror reflecting the emptiness that he so desperately tried to ignore. He shut the laptop, the weight of the realization pressing down on him.
