Rain lashed against the window, mirroring the tempest inside Amelia. She slumped in her desk chair, arms crossed, staring at the laptop screen. There it was: “Amelia’s Angst-Ridden Diary: The Unfiltered Truth.” Her face burned with the kind of heat that made her want to peel off her skin. She scrolled through the comments, each one a tiny barb, each one twisting the knife. “Drama queen,” one sneered. Another read, “Someone needs to get a grip.” She wanted to delete the entire internet.

She slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent room. Grabbing her worn hoodie, she stomped downstairs, ignoring her mother’s cheerful greeting. The refrigerator door slammed shut behind her, the only sound as she grabbed a carton of ice cream and retreated back upstairs.
