Gemotions

The cold, sterile atmosphere of the apartment felt amplified. I sat on the sofa, clutching a blanket around me. David had been acting strange. He'd been quieter than usual, always on his phone. The air was heavy with unspoken words.

He emerged from the bedroom, a slightly flushed look on his face. "Bonjour, ma chérie," he said, awkwardly. He held a small, heart-shaped box of chocolates.

I stared at him, my expression blank. I looked at the chocolates then away again, the corners of my mouth tightening.
