Gemotions

The envelope crumpled in his hand. He hadn't expected it. He dropped it on the table and paced the length of the living room, hands shoved deep in his pockets. The hardwood floor creaked beneath his feet, the sound echoing the unrest within him.

He pictured the faces, their memories, and all the paths they had taken. It was an overwhelming feeling of frustration, a resentment he never wanted to feel. He kicked at an errant throw pillow, sending it skidding across the floor. This was his life, and now he was going to pretend it was a success.

He would rather stay home.
