The concert hall buzzed with anticipation, but Michael felt detached, an observer of a world he no longer recognized. He'd been looking forward to this for weeks - a performance of the symphony inspired by his favorite author, Silas Blackwood. Now, seeing the author's name on the program, he felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his chest.
