The radio in the car was on, a mindless companion on the endless highway. He barely registered the music. Then, a familiar intro. He gripped the steering wheel a little tighter. A pop artist's version of his song, all glossy production and Auto-Tune. He flicked the radio off, the sudden silence almost more unsettling. He pulled over to the side of the road, the gravel crunching under the tires. He leaned his head against the steering wheel, the metal cold against his forehead.
