Gemotions

Mr. Johnson felt the familiar thrum of unease in his chest, a constant companion these days. He found himself avoiding his colleagues, the routine of the school day a tiresome chore. He couldn't seem to find any pleasure in anything.

There was a gift waiting on his desk, a small, unassuming package. He didn't recognize the name on the label. He felt a flicker of annoyance, but he opened it anyway.

Inside was a vintage fountain pen and a bottle of ink, in a deep, rich color. A note: "Thanks for always encouraging me to write, Mr. Johnson. It matters." The note was signed by Emily, a girl he had seen struggle through her own insecurities. He uncapped the pen, holding it in his hand, a ghost of a smile touching his lips.
