The air in the rehearsal room felt thick with unspoken grief. Alex sat hunched on a stool, fingers drumming a restless rhythm on his thigh. They were supposed to be preparing for the fall play. Now, the stage lights felt like a mocking glare.

He stared at his script, but the words swam before his eyes. He felt a hollowness in his chest, a deep ache. All that hard work, all the rehearsals, all the dreams – now, what was the point?
