The news arrived in a carefully worded email from her brother, Daniel. He had become a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. For Helen, it was a sensation of… discombobulation. Her fingers trembled as she scrolled through the email again, as if the words themselves might change.

She closed her eyes, trying to process the information, but her mind felt like a tangled web. The familiar hum of the refrigerator seemed suddenly louder, more intrusive. She felt a need to pace, to move, to somehow break free from the constraints of this unexpected announcement.
