The coffee cup nearly slipped from David's grasp. He had just seen the list of interviewees posted outside the office, and there, alongside his name, was… Sarah's. His stomach took a sudden plunge. Sarah. The woman who’d helped him with his resume, the woman who’d listened patiently to all of his frantic anxieties about the job market.

He couldn’t believe this.

He reread the list, as though the words might change. This was not part of the plan. They'd both agreed he needed it more. He felt a cold dread creeping into his bones. He knew how badly she wanted this. Had *he* been the naive one?

He gripped the cup tighter, the ceramic digging into his palm. He needed to get out of here. He needed to find her.
