The metallic tang of blood filled Leo's mouth. Not literally, but the emotion tasted like that. The absence of his truck, his trusty, beat-up Ford, hit him with a physical force. His breath hitched in his chest, a strangled gasp escaping his lips. He ran a hand through his already messy hair, a gesture of bewilderment that became frantic.

He stared at the neighbor’s perfectly manicured lawn, the bright green seeming to mock his own predicament. He double-checked the street numbers, a flicker of panic in his eyes.

“That’s…impossible,” he muttered, the words barely audible. His stomach felt like it had dropped a hundred stories. He felt an urge to sit down, a sudden, overwhelming weakness spreading through his legs.
