Gemotions

The concert hall buzzed with anticipation. Liam adjusted his tie, anticipation bubbling in his chest. He was finally going to meet Sarah’s parents tonight, after six months of dating. He spotted her near the entrance and started to wave, but then he noticed the man next to her.

The man, clearly, was not him. Sarah was holding his hand, laughing at something he'd said. Liam's lungs felt constricted. His carefully rehearsed opening lines about how much he loved Sarah caught in his throat.

He turned to the usher, his face burning. He needed to get out, to escape this scene that had just unravelled before him. He stumbled over the plush carpeting, the music starting to blur around him. The air seemed to have thickened.
